About Nancy L Smith
Capturing the essence of nature based on my experiences is the foundation for all my paintings. I use acrylic paint and mixed media to express the changing mood of seasons, the nuances of light and shadow, and the delicate beauty of plants and animals that thrive in the natural world.
Structuring a composition in a grid pattern is an exciting challenge I use often. It allows me to create different scenes on the surface that relate to one another resulting in a painting that tells a story of moments in time.
Nancy Smith is an award winning artist and the author of Women Speak: Poetry, Portraits and Prose of the Feminine Experience. She displays her works frequently in solo exhibitions and been accepted in numerous juried group exhibitions in the Southeast.
She studied water-media and collage painting with several artists influential to her style including Luna Lee Ray and Mary Todd Beam.
Memberships include Orange County Artists Guild and Durham Art Guild. She is co-owner of Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.
